Ken Taylor was born in Vancouver, BC and graduated from Burnaby South High School in 1962. He then attended Western Washington State College and graduated in 1967 with a teaching degree. Ken retired in 2000 after teaching for 33 years at Burnaby Central Secondary school where he also coached track and field.

Four athletes from Ken's Track and Field program went on to compete in the Olympic Games for Canada and six to the Commonwealth games. Ken built his track and field program around "the Team" concept even though Track and Field is considered an individual sport. Ken coached his teams to 15 BC High School T&F Championships, 9 second place finishes and several 3rd place finishes. In recognition of his achievement and dedication to sport, Ken was inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame as a coach in 2004.
