Fourth Annual Cory Holly Classic 2020 Meet Summary

In spite of a previous COVID related cancellation in August and smoke hazard warnings, seven new records were established in the Fourth Annual Cory Holly Track and Field Classic Sept 19th at the Greater Vernon Athletic Park.

91 year old Vernon resident Larry Chalmers, competing in the Masters Men division, set a new BC record in the hammer throw of 19.73 metres. Mrytle Acton, 87, of Sooke, competing in the Masters Women division, set a Canadian record in the hammer throw (21.49 metres) and a world record in the weight throw (9.87 metres).

Merek Glowacki, 80, of Revelstoke, competing in the Masters Men division, set two Canadian records, one in the shot put with a distance of 11.63 metres and another in the Throws Pentathlon with a total score of 4086 points.

Christine Hinzmann, 57, of Prince George, also a Masters Women competitor, set a new BC record of 9.55 metres in the weight throw. Christine also set a new BC record in the Throws Pentathlon with a total score of 2632 points.

Cory Holly, 62, Meet Director and competitive hammer thrower, said that 25 athletes from across BC ranging in age from 13 to 91 came out to express themselves in the sport they love. Thanks very much to all the athletes, staff, volunteers, coaches and officials for helping make this local community event a tremendous success.
