1st Annual Cory Holly Classic 2017

1st Annual Vernon Throws Challenge Saturday August 19th, 2017

First Annual Cory Holly Classic Meet Summary

The Vernon Throws Challenge, hosted by the Cory Holly Institute at Vernon’s beautiful new track, was a great success. The athletes were in fine form and the official’s top notch. Our management team and volunteers performed with extraordinary dedication. Special thanks to Tracy Holly, Hedley Larson, Attila & Eszter Torok, Mitchell Harris and Michael Harrington.

Outstanding performances included a 53.84m hammer throw by 16 year old Phoebe Price-Roberts from Lake Country and a 38.31m hammer throw by 12 year old Kian Zabihi of Vernon. Margaret Raffan age 90 from Armstrong impressed everyone with her enthusiastic participation in the discus and javelin. Margaret was joined by her 62 year old son Don Raffan in the discus, javelin and hammer, and by her 54 year old daughter in-law Diana Raffan in the discus and javelin. This event was truly a family affair!

The men’s javelin line-up included 75 year old Victor Aksenov from Kelowna who actually competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan on behalf of the Soviet Union. Each athlete and spectator alike sported a congenial attitude of appreciation. Not one athlete walked away without a medal. Thanks to all who contributed and made this amazing event possible. We look forward to a bigger and better event next year! Live Long...Throw Far!
